Position Description
Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) is seeking an experienced Sales Development Representative (“SDR”) to join our membership sales team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of exceeding quota in lead generation, both in calls and emails, while working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. The candidate must be a self-starter with exceptional networking and customer engagement skills who knows how to identify and qualify potential leads. The SDR must also be able to collaborate effectively with a cross-functional team and to build effective long-term customer relationships.
Responsibilities
- Become an expert in the value, benefits, and features of AEE membership and PowerSuite
- Research and source leads for outbound campaigns
- Build and maintain a strong opportunity pipeline to consistently meet or exceed quota
- Work with AEE’s broader Membership, Marketing, and Sales team to improve outbound lead qualification and sales process
- Leverage AEE’s broader team of policy initiative leads as subject matter experts for conveying our value proposition to prospects
- Define success criteria and value propositions with each customer
- Use a data driven approach to identify inefficiencies and continuously improve our sales process to increase conversion rates, increase the volume of leads and increase product demo and membership sales appointments
Qualifications
- 2+ years sales development experience with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Keen attention to detail, self-motivated and able to seek out leads daily that fit our customer profiles
- Willingness to quickly learn AEE’s value and business model to then identify companies/individuals that would benefit from our services and be able to articulate those points through email and/or phone calls
- Ability to actively communicate and coordinate with Sales team via customer and project management tracking tools and virtual meetings/communication platforms
- Experience in effectively providing a strong value proposition with cold outreach focused on building a pipeline with outbound campaigns
- High proficiency with CRM platforms and related tools
- Commitment to operating with a sense of urgency and a positive winning attitude
- Demonstrable understanding of trade associations and ability to effectively and succinctly communicate this to both inexperienced and experienced audiences
- Accurate forecasting and pipeline management skills
- History of being a top producer in previous roles
- Strong focus on your goals and a belief that your daily, weekly, and monthly activities will help you achieve them
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
- Basic knowledge of the energy and/or government affairs industry, preferred

Position Description
AEE seeks a smart, innovative, and politically savvy Director to join AEE’s professional services team. The Director will work with AEE team members to strategize, develop, and implement multi-year strategies and campaigns designed to achieve policy successes at the state and federal level and create clean energy champions, both of which will accelerate the U.S.’s transition to 100% clean energy. This work will involve executing policy campaigns to enact pro-advanced energy legislation in states and defending existing advanced energy policies in key states, developing regulatory strategies and filings that reflect AEE interests in creating a 21st Century Electricity System and expanding electric vehicle adoption, working with allies to align clean energy and equity priorities, and policy education efforts to create advanced energy champions in key positions. This position will focus on AEE priority states east of the Mississippi.
AEE is seeking a highly energetic and self-starting professional who brings a background in issue advocacy at the state level and experience with energy markets and advanced energy technologies. The Director will work collaboratively, leading project teams under the direction of Managing Directors on both internal and external projects to advance AEE’s policy agenda in priority states in the East and Midwest. Candidates should be creative and flexible, with the ability to develop and execute strategies, working in multiple venues with diverse stakeholders. The successful candidate will have excellent organizational skills and ability to find common ground both with corporate membership and external stakeholders. Candidates will need to have the ability to travel (post pandemic) to meet with AEE members, coalition allies and stakeholders, and public officials.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of advanced energy policy strategies for market growth, as well as identify future venues for policy and political success. Current portfolio includes engagement in Virginia and Pennsylvania. Other Eastern/Central states in which AEE engages include New York, Florida, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois.
- Work with AEE professional services team members to drive AEE’s decision-maker engagement and education strategy, including educational work with public utility commissioners on advanced energy industry topics and trends.
- Work collaboratively with AEE professional services team members on developing and implementing strategies to meet short and long-term policy objectives in key states as part of AEE’s core portfolio. This may include legislative, regulatory, and administrative (e.g. governor’s office) engagement.
- Work with AEE members to develop and reach consensus on policy positions in targeted states and on key issues. Facilitate member calls and lead policy discussions to coalesce member input and prioritize areas of interest and engagement.
- Organize member engagement opportunities through direct decision maker engagement including lobby days and candidate education, earned media, and expert testimony; and participate in legislative, rulemaking, and administrative processes, as needed.
- Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with coalition partners, philanthropy, allies, and key legislative, regulatory, and administrative staff.
- Work with communications staff to identify and seize opportunities to showcase stories and evidence of the advanced energy economy taking hold in the states. Draft press statements, write blog posts, participate in webinars, and create opportunities to showcase advanced energy.
- Travel on an as needed basis (up to 30%, post pandemic) to targeted states for advocacy days, conferences, meetings with key allies and stakeholders, communications outreach, and other efforts on behalf of AEE.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s and/or Advanced degree, Political Science, Public Policy, Economics or Engineering preferred or applicable comparable experience
- Minimum of seven years of professional experience in and engagement in the clean energy or transportation sector
- Political campaign or organizing experience, preferably in the clean energy space
- Entrepreneurial approach, flexible attitude, and ability to operate independently, making decisions consistent with AEE’s mission/vision
- Handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to engage members, customers, and funders, and sell AEE and its value proposition to those audiences
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbal
- Intellectual curiosity, inquisitive nature, and excellent listening and problem-solving skills
