Field Engineering Specialist at Emerson Job Description

If you are a Field Service Engineering professional looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson has an exciting opportunity for you!  Based in our Houston, Texas location (possibly remote, depends on experience), you will play a major role in the utilization of all resources associated with the development and generation of the service/field projects business segments. You also provide the matrix supervision to a large group of more Junior Field Engineer personnel in handling all aspects of these businesses in dealing with the customers

AS A FIELD ENGINEERING SPECIALIST, YOU WILL: 

  • Contact customers to review and promote their needs for service, maintenance contracts, systems adds, and stand-alone system requirements.
  • Develop and direct the implementation of “engineered system” projects or systems adds utilizing current and non-current technologies.
  • Provide project management on large Division projects during installation, start-up, or where it is required to supervise PWS subcontractors (such as system installers).
  • Utilize highly specialized knowledge and skills in an advisory or technical assistant role to Division Engineers and Management on complex technical or related problems.
  • Provide advanced process tuning for Boiler and BOP processes
  • Develop and implement startup and tuning activities for major retrofit projects.
  • Conduct site acceptance and performance testing for major retrofit projects to meet contractual performance targets.
  • Work with plant operations teams, while at site, to ensure effective tuning of plant processes for optimized productivity of steam and electricity.
  • Generate and store tuning reports for all site tuning.
  • Work with simulation group to startup and tune high fidelity systems for different customer units.
  • Recommend and justify additions to staff, interview and recommend the hiring or candidates for Field Engineering positions, review performance of field engineers assigned to his area, and recommend salary adjustments.
  • Follow negotiated changes which effect the scope of a project or program ensuring that the lower classified field engineers have sufficient technical and administrative support to perform efficiently and effectively.
  • Analyze, investigate, and resolve customer warranty and policy claims.  This requires an in-depth knowledge of the obligations and restrictions set forth by warranties and policies so that claims may be settled promptly and efficiently.
  • Become certified on divisional products where appropriate.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree, will consider experience in lieu of degree.
  • A minimum of 8 years of field related experience.
  • Strong understanding of power plant operation and controls.
  • Strong understanding of control schemes for Boiler and Turbine on conventional and combined cycle plants.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 80% of time, primarily North America.
  • Capable of displaying a high degree of ingenuity, resourcefulness, and competence in day to day technical activities. Recognized as an expert in the industry and have demonstrated competence in related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience tuning conventional & combined cycle plants.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

We have an exciting opportunity for a Human Resources Business Partner to work at our approximately 70-person manufacturing facility in Brenham, TX.  This role reports directly to the VP/General Manager and will be a member of the local leadership team. This role will also be part of a broader group of Emerson Human Resources professionals that meet regularly to discuss common opportunities and challenges.  This position will involve talent acquisition, employee relations, training, and benefit duties.  
 
AS A HUMAN RESOURCES BUSINESS PARTNER, YOU WILL: 
  • Assist in providing full service human resources support for the site. Advise employees and supervision on company guidelines and practices while emphasizing rationale and importance.
  • Ensure positive employee relations are maintained through open communications and responsiveness to employee concerns. Lead investigations regarding employee concerns, ensuring due process is followed. Recommend courses of action consistent with company practices.
  • Manage the talent acquisition process by ensuring the best qualified candidate is hired for each opening, consistent assessment processes are applied and appropriate affirmative action is taken.
  • Act as an individual or team coach to assist in improving the overall effectiveness of the organization
  • Ensure employees and supervisors complete required training programs, coordinating external training or conducting site training as needed
  • Be responsible for site administration of payroll & benefit programs, the open enrollment process, communicating plan changes, and providing claims assistance
  • With oversight, administer compensation program: compile data for annual wage proposal, evaluate and recommend wage and salary actions, and manage merit increases and the promotion process
