Plumber ll at Georgia College Job Description

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the manager/supervisor in the Operations and Maintenance Department, this is a mid level plumbing position responsible for performing preventative maintenance, repair, replacement and installation on plumbing system and fixtures such as, but not limited to, water heaters, water coolers, ice makers, and boilers. Has the ability to troubleshoot chilled water piping, dish washers, and other complex commercial plumbing applications.  Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

Responsibilities

Installing – 40
Install and maintain a variety of plumbing systems such as, but not limited to, sanitary waste, storm drains, water distribution, irrigation, fire suppression systems, air lines, gas piping and steam piping.

Operating Equipment – 10
Operate tools and equipment such as, but not limited to, pipe cutters, reamers, thread and sewer machines. Has the ability to operate small earth moving equipment such as mini excavator and backhoes.

Repairing – 30
Repair and replace plumbing systems including, but not limited to, pneumatic steam valves, radiator valves, traps, and steam and condensate pipes, hot water pumps, chilled water pumps, sump pumps, sewage pumps, gas piping, water lines and irrigation.

Inspection – 10
Inspect, test and repair plumbing systems including, but not limited to all sizes of backflow prevention devices and chemical feed systems.

Troubleshooting/Compliance – 5
Troubleshoot and repair plumbing systems, including, but not limited to, steam, water and gas utility systems.

Other – 5
Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; Promotes workplace safety.

Required Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and 5-8 years of plumbing related experience OR Demonstrated work experience as a journeymen or master plumber of 10 or more years

Other Required Qualifications
Ability to operate a computer or iPad in order to send and receive emails, and submit work orders using a computerized maintenance management system;
Valid driver’s license

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge
Position requires computer skills for entering and completing work orders, database input, project manager software and e-mail. Incumbent must know and follow safety procedures at all times, as they may come into contact with sharp, hot and/or very cold supplies, equipment and foreign objects/materials, poisons and gases that could cause injury or illness when contacted with air or skin exposure.  Exposure to contagious or infectious diseases may occur.  Knowledge of working hazards such as a proximity to mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high platforms and chemical exposure, is a must.  Strong working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry and HVAC work.

Ability to work cooperatively with other trades; ability to make administrative and/procedural decisions and judgements; effective verbal, written and listening skills.  Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports. Ability to comprehend two-dimensional plans (blueprints) and visualize them in three-dimensional format.  Ability to understand, follow and perform tasks within safety protocols.  Ability to understand and follow written instructions.  Ability to climb, work from ladders, scaffolding and staging, daily.  Ability to grasp, lift, and carry heavy objects daily.  Ability to operate motorized vehicles, motorized man lifts, heavy equipment and power tools daily.  Ability to remain on task without direct supervision for extended periods of time. Position requires long hours in awkward positions which can cause physical discomfort and strain. Must possess the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Position requires ability to work in outdoor environments/weather conditions. Ability to work in crawlspaces, shafts, man holes, sewage and water line pipes and other areas that may be considered claustrophobic. Incumbant should also possess the ability to work near smells associated with sewer and water, exposure to the sounds that comes with power tool operation, as well as exposure to dust and other debris that are present near construction and power tools.

Police Officer at Georgia College Job Description

The position of Police Officer is a regular, and/or special detail position, providing general law enforcement and service related duties for the Georgia College & State University community. To perform these duties, employees in this position must possess, or be able to obtain and maintain, certification as a peace officer, pursuant to the rules of the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council.

Work involves knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, in addition to policies and procedures of the Board of Regents of the State of Georgia, Georgia College & State University, and the department of Public Safety. Employees assigned to this position must be able to demonstrate the ability to exercise independent judgment and decision making within the limits prescribed by laws, rules, regulation, policies, and procedures.

Work requires dedication to public service, which is often accompanied by emotional and/or physical stress from rapidly evolving events. The employee must be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Patrol – 40%
Conduct routine vehicle, foot, bicycle, and alternative patrol of Georgia College & State University properties, and the surrounding area pursuant to statutory jurisdictions.
Such patrol shall facilitate the detection and deterrence of crime, criminal activity, and suspicious activity for Georgia College & State University properties.

Law Enforcement – 15%
This position requires employees to utilize sound discretion and decision making skills when determining appropriate responses to violations of federal, state, local, and traffic laws.

Reporting – 5%
Provide adequate documentation of public safety actions, including the authoring of incident reports, arrest and booking reports, use of force reports, supplemental reports, traffic citations, and other documents related to safety and security initiatives on campus.
Such documentation may include written reports, diagrams, sketches, and other representations of reported circumstances.

Safety and Security Activities – 15%
Perform relevant safety and security functions that enhance public safety within the Georgia College & State University community.
Such functions include: developing positive police-community relations, facilitating the physical security of campus properties, the performance of first-aid in response to medical distress, the enhancement of emergency response to a variety of natural and man-made hazards.

Communications – 10%
Effectively communicate with other departmental personnel in the field, and as a reserve communications officer in the Georgia College & State University communications center.

Other – 5%
Perform other duties as assigned.

Must be able to successfully pass a comprehensive background check, pursuant to the regulations of Georgia College & State University, the Board of Regents Police Guidebook and recommendations from the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. Requirements will include, at a minimum: an oral interview, a state and federal criminal history check, a nationwide sex offender search, a social security number check, a credit history check, a medical examination, a drug screening, a psychological screening, a polygraph examination, an employment history check, and the verification of at least three professional/personal references.
Must possess a valid driver’s license, or the ability to obtain a valid driver’s license.
