Associate Director, Annual Giving at Kqed Job Description

The Associate Director of Annual Giving oversees and supervises all aspects of the Signal Society program ($1,500-$4,999) which includes direct supervision of Development Associate, Annual Fund. This includes donor strategy, planning renewal and special campaigns, data analysis and donor stewardship. Working in collaboration with the Leadership Giving team ($5,000 and above), this position also coordinates the writing of major donor correspondence, including solicitation and renewal letters. The ideal candidate will have experience planning fundraising campaigns and creating communications strategy. Attention to detail, strong project management skills, and a desire to create and maintain orderly systems are key qualities for this position.

This role will work hybrid between working in KQED’s newly renovated headquarters and working remotely. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or to provide documentation of a need for exemption.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides leadership, motivation, and professional guidance to staff directly and indirectly.  Directly supervises, Development Associate, Annual Fund. Manage a portfolio of donors giving from $1,500-$4,999 to ensure that proper cultivation and stewardship is provided, including the planning and execution of a multi-channel solicitation system (renewal, upgrade, and additional gift) and other select campaigns to meet revenue goals. (30%)
  • Manage the writing of major donor written and digital communications including renewals, acknowledgements, and project reports. Work closely with Director of Donor Stewardship on stewardship strategies and communication materials such as annual major donor newsletter, annual report and quarter communication pieces. (20%)
  • Manage the fundraising writing of major donor written and digital communications including renewals, acknowledgements, and project reports. Work closely with Director of Donor Stewardship to on stewardship strategies and communication materials such as annual major donor newsletter, annual report and quarter communication pieces. (15%)
  • Analyze giving level trends and retention rates to maximize the success of renewal and upgrade strategies. Work with the Senior Director of Leadership Gifts in the development of annual budget. (10%)
  • Lead coordination of quarterly donor tours, and attend and provide necessary assistance on major donor events. Work with the Manager of Patron Events to create and deploy follow-up emails and surveys to guests. (10%)
  • Work closely with membership counterparts to develop, implement and test strategies to grow and strengthen the donor pipeline. (10%)

Knowledge/Experience Required:

  1. Minimum of four years experience in fundraising/development in the annual fund or major gift area.
  2. Proven track record of meeting revenue goals and setting budgets.
  3. Demonstrated experience leading a team and providing coaching and motivation to staff to ensure reaching stretch goals.
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite with advanced proficiency in Excel and working knowledge of Google suites.
  5. Advance proficiency in CRM management, reporting and analysis, preferable with Revolution Online (ROI).
  6. Excellent writing and editing skills with excellent attention to detail, copy editing and experience writing in multiple “voices”.

Benefits and Compensation Analyst at Kqed Job Description

The Benefits and Compensation Analyst is responsible for managing and administering the benefits and compensation programs at KQED and providing service and support to staff and managers alike.  In addition, this role is responsible for the overall coordination of the safety program at KQED working with managers and leaders throughout the organization.

Essential Functions: 

  1. Responsible for maintaining and administering all KQED Benefits programs and ensuring that the use of these programs is meeting the needs of our staff. Ensures that staff is aware and knowledgeable about the benefit programs we offer and how to maximize their use. Looks for creative ways to promote wellness and benefits programs to staff. Participates in the annual benefits renewal meetings and provides recommendations as to where changes might be made to improve the program and/or reduce costs.

  2. Provides compensation analysis for non-union roles based on the salary structure in place. Maintains the integrity of the non-union salary structure. Takes a proactive approach to identifying areas that need to be reviewed based on talent acquisition data, promotions or requests. Works with outside consultants to gather and analyze data.

  3. Analyzes compensation data for union positions to ensure the integrity of the KQED salary structure and union contract compliance. Administers union contract payouts throughout the year, including but not limited to, the Good Health Bonus, and sick leave payouts. Provides support and back up to Talent Acquisition for previous experience credit awards.

  4. Updates and maintains KQED’s benefits and salary tables/structure in the HRIS as well as generating reports and analyzing results from the HRIS system as requested.

  5. Responsible for the KQED overall safety program, including creating a safety committee and getting input on initiatives, supporting department-specific training, and ensuring that staff is prepared for an emergency should it happen while in the building.

  6. Responds to salary/benefit survey data and collects and analyzes salary/benefit survey data as it is returned, providing recommendations for improvements.

  7. Administers Leave of Absence Programs by working closely with employees requesting an LOA and managers of those employees who are impacted to provide support before, during, and upon return from leave. Ensures that all leaves of absence are tracked and in compliance with federal/state guidelines as well as KQED policies and procedures.  Works with staff on seeking out options for different types of leave, and proactively communicates with staff about options. Leads the interactive process to support staff who return with particular needs. Communicates with the State disability office as needed.

  8. Initiates the interactive process with employees requesting accommodations and creates a plan for the employee with their manager. Coordinates with Senior Labor and Employment counsel as needed.

  9. Reviews and recommends benefits-related policies and procedure changes/improvements as necessary.

  10. Reviews unemployment claims and responds as needed contesting those that are not correct. Follows up on claims that should not belong to KQED.

  11. Plans coordinates and promotes the annual KQED health fair in conjunction with open enrollment to ensure staff members are informed of plans and programs.

  12. Administers the workers’ compensation program and ensures compliance with the requirements of OSHA regulations and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Takes steps to ensure that workers’ compensation claims are not needed through proactive safety training and other activities.

  13. Administers the San Francisco Health Care Security Ordinance.

  14. Performs other essential functions are required.

Knowledge/Experience Required:

  1. At least three years’ professional level Human Resources experience in benefits, compensation, and retirement plan administration.
  2. Knowledge/experience with applicable local, state, and federal regulations including but not limited to COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, ADA, PFL, HIPAA, OSHA, and Workers’ Compensation.
  3. Ability to diplomatically respond to a variety of issues and concerns grounded in experience with conflict resolution techniques and active listening skills.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal communications.
  5. Strong HRIS/HR Payroll systems and applications, as well as Microsoft Office .
  6. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  7. Ability to maintain confidentiality and weigh alternative approaches to resolve issues.

Distribution and Partnerships Manager at Kqed Job Description

KQED Education is a distinct and critical contributor to KQED’s public service mission, creating and disseminating unique, engaging educational content focused on enhancing educator effectiveness and accelerating learning for youth aged 11–18 in the Bay Area and beyond. KQED elevates diverse youth voices by developing their ability to analyze and evaluate information sources, create media that powerfully communicates their ideas, and share their unique voices with a broad public media audience so that they experience being part of the public conversation and gain readiness for civic life.. We help educators to create learning environments of the 21st century by promoting media literacy, student voice, civic engagement, creative expression, and inquiry-based learning using digital media. The Distribution and Partnerships Manager contributes to this effort in three primary ways:

  • Engaging and managing relationships with districts and schools in the Bay Area, leading to the adoption and implementation of KQED resources.
  • Managing KQED Education’s content distribution partnerships.
  • Partnering with the Youth Media Program Manager on outreach and distribution efforts to support public media stations around the country sharing content from KQED Youth Media Challenges.

Responsibilities and Duties:  Manage relationships with Bay Area education agencies Work with Bay Area school districts to roll out and implement PBS Media Literacy Certification and related professional development.

  • Work with partners to determine needs and deliver custom plans for integration of KQED resources.
  • Coordinate with the Education content team to deliver professional development for educators.
  • Work with Product Marketing Manager to identify schools and districts using KQED products for outreach and potential partnership opportunities.
  • Report on usage metrics of teachers in partner districts and work with the Associate Director of Impact to identify trends and opportunities for improvement and share findings with internal and external stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Regularly communicate with program managers at school or district sites to understand challenges to adoption and usage of our tools, emerging trends, and how we can improve the effectiveness of program implementation.
  • Serve as the main KQED point of contact for all Bay Area education agencies.

Manage Content Distribution Partnerships

  • Publish and manage KQED Education content on PBS LearningMedia
  • Manage, maintain and nurture relationships with existing distribution partners and support the distribution and promotion of our content on their platforms.
  • Support the identification, cultivation and execution of new partnerships to expand the reach of KQED Education content.
  • Serve as part of the core team responsible for developing and implementing partnership strategy and evaluating the effectiveness of our distribution efforts.

Manage Youth Media public media station partnerships

  • Lead outreach and engagement related to Youth Media Challenges for stations.
  • Communicate with stations about local Youth Media Challenge submissions

Executive Director, Brand and Audience Development at Kqed Job Description

The Executive Director will define and implement a brand and audience development strategy with the goal to increase brand visibility and to strengthen engagement and loyalty with KQED audiences across broadcast and digital platforms. The Executive Director will lead the in-house agency, KQED Creative, and the audience development and marketing communications teams in developing and delivering cross-platform initiatives that address audiences and members across the spectrum, from introduction to cultivation.

The Executive Director will report to and work closely with the Chief Audience Officer on establishing and achieving strategic objectives. The Executive Director will lead and contribute regularly to cross-functional teams and engage with senior leadership and directors of audience intelligence, content (digital video, live events, podcasts, news, arts, food), programming, fundraising, sponsorship, product, and IT teams. The Executive Director will work effectively to assure projects and initiatives are planned, tracked, and launched on time and successfully.

The Executive Director directly manages five professionals across the teams and sets standards for their continuous growth.

Essential Functions: 

  1. With KQED Creative, manage the creation, execution, and analysis of all brand initiatives. Lead teams to ideate and collaborate with cross-functional partners to develop and execute brand initiatives that activate, engage, and retain audiences, and help drive membership. Ensure brand consistency in creative development, positioning, and execution.
  2. Oversee the design and rollout of social media strategies experiences that generate high engagement with audiences. Build experiences that are specific to each platform including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn, and employ both organic and paid tactics.
  3. Craft a cohesive, audience-facing narrative that differentiates the KQED brand, and establishes and grows KQED’s role in the community. Manage internal and external aspects of PR and communication strategy and execution, in alignment with the overarching marketing strategy. Contribute to the refinement and amplification of KQED’s brand identity, values, and voice.
  4. Develop and oversee KQED email marketing strategies that grow loyalty with audiences. Assess the effectiveness of current e-newsletters, campaigns, and messaging, and make recommendations and changes for maximum engagement. Build, launch, and monitor a diverse set of new email communications.
  5. Working with the Audience Intelligence unit, comprehensively test, measure, and report cross-platform results for each major effort. Encourage and track audience feedback. Analyze results to measure the success of strategies employed as related to cost and creativity. Communicate actionable feedback to KQED leadership and cross-departmental teams.
  6. Lead and contribute regularly to cross-functional teams and engage with senior leadership, and directors of audience intelligence, content (digital video, news, podcasts, arts, food), programming, events, fundraising, sponsorship, product, design, and IT teams.
  7. Manage key external partner, vendor, and agency relationships. Facilitate both tactical and high-level communication to assure working teams are consistently and effectively informed on projects.
  8. Analyze research and audience insights to identify areas of growth. Derive creative approaches to audience journeys from data. Identify and evaluate emerging audience growth technologies and services for KQED.
  9.  In collaboration with the director of diversity, equity and inclusion, develop and deliver a communications strategy for external audiences about KQED’s ongoing commitment to DEI and actions the organization is taking.
  10. Manage the heads of KQED Creative agency, marketing communications, and audience development and set standards for their continuous growth.
  11. Determine the goals, requirements, expectations, and scope of brand and audience development initiatives annually, quarterly and monthly. Oversee the audience development, marketing communications, and KQED Creative budgets and contracts.

Credentials/Education Required:

Bachelor’s Degree preferred or comparable experience in a related field.

Knowledge/Experience Required:

  1. Results-oriented, confident strategic thinker that consistently demonstrates leadership and motivates through teamwork and collaboration.
  2. Able to think conceptually and strategically, but also be willing to execute the work.
  3.  7-10 years of experience in audience development or marketing, preferably in media, with proven experience executing integrated plans within a complex organization.
  4. 3-5 years of experience managing and directing creative and/or communication teams.
  5. A proven track record of building and developing audiences organically and through paid marketing campaigns.
  6. Fluency in all aspects of digital marketing, including segmented audience targeting.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience making presentations to small and large audiences.
  8. Experience leading teams in a fast-moving environment harnessing the right methodology as needed for team and project success.
  9. Working knowledge of CRMs, coupled with Salesforce Marketing Cloud or other email experience.
  10. Proficiency with Google Analytics, Excel/Google Sheets, Facebook Audience Insights, Sprout Social, Crowdtangle, and Google AdWords.
  11. Exceptional communication and collaboration skills with a track record of successfully interfacing both internally and externally.
  12. Proven experience in developing and executing strategic plans. Problem-solving, solutions-oriented skills, both quantitative and qualitative.
  13. Brings strategic and creative ideas on how to grow and retain loyal audiences, and excitement about ideating and building initiatives from scratch.
  14. A self-starter mindset with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and timely manage resources and multiple projects simultaneously.
