Activities Coordinator at Montclair Police Department Job Description

Coordinates the scheduling of varied recreational activities for youth, adults, and seniors in the community; organizes and supervises athletic leagues, teams and recreation programs (e.g., dance, arts); performs related duties as required. Work is performed under general direction from the Director of Recreation, who reviews performance for conformance to departmental policies and procedures.

Duties: Plans, implements, and supervises recreational programs for residents of all ages; assigns recreation employees, schedules activities and facilities, and registers participants. Hires umpires and staff for all recreation activities, including sports leagues. Prepares reports on activities, permits issued, and scheduling of events of the recreational facility. Maintains time records of employees. Compiles statistical and other data; maintains records and files. Handles requests for information concerning activities of the park or recreational site.

Requirements: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a high school.  One (1) year of experience in work involved in the scheduling of numerous and varied social or recreational or educational or sporting events or programs. Position requires off hours availability to work nights and weekends as situations warrant.

Salary:  $25.00 per hour. Part-time; not to exceed 25 hours per week. Temporary assignment.

Salary/Pay Rate: $6,369 – $8,036*/mo. ($5,623/mo. salary while enrolled in the 20-week Police Academy)

Under general supervision prevents crimes, enforces laws, investigates complaints, and
apprehends criminals and suspects; protects the innocent, helps the distressed,
safeguards public rights, and aids in the administration of justice; and assumes

alternating shifts including some weekends and holidays.

*Includes other special pays. Longevity Conduct Pay subject to criteria as outlined in MOU.

About Us

The Montclair Police Department is a municipal law enforcement agency responsible for the delivery of a full range of law enforcement services. The Police Department was first established in 1956 with a sworn force of six officers, operating out of a 17′ x 8′ office. Our service area has grown from 4.2 square miles, serving a community of 8,008 residents to what is now a 5.5 square-mile community of roughly 37,000 residents. The Department has evolved into a community-oriented organization employing 60 sworn officers today.

Aside from uniform patrol, the Department offers specialized assignments such as Detective Bureau, Narcotics Investigations Task Force, Motor Officer Program, Technical Services, Volunteer Services Coordinator/Red Light Enforcement Officer, Plaza Precinct Patrol, School Resource Officer, and Safe School Zone Officer. In addition to our sworn force, the Department employs 50 full and part-time civilian support personnel and 18 volunteers, including 15 reserve officers and 3 chaplains. We are currently in the process of recruiting additional volunteers for our Volunteers In Policing and Reserve Officer Programs. Our organizational structure, lead by the Chief of Police, is comprised of three divisions: Administrative, Support Services, and Field Services. Our Administrative Division provides support, general management and direction in all department operations, from planning and personnel administration to community relations. Our Support Services Division is divided into specialized units such as Investigations, Evidence, Technical Services, Records, and Volunteer Services. Finally, the Field Services Division is responsible for patrol operations, including Narcotics Enforcement, Uniform Patrol, Plaza Patrol, Traffic Enforcement, Field Training Program, Crime Suppression Unit (CSU), and School Resource Officers. This division also includes our Communications (Dispatch) Division.
