Academic Affairs has initiated many new programs, practices, and processes to meet our institutional strategic destinations particularly for student success and becoming a great public research university.  The Assistant Vice Provost will provide leadership and administration of the faculty, fiscal, and business operations related to Academic Affairs and Academic Colleges in order to support the advancement of academic excellence and achievement of UTSA’s strategic plan.

This position will directly support the Senior Vice Provost of Academic Affairs and be actively involved as a key member of Academic Affairs Financial and Administration Team. This position will work collaboratively with the Academic College Deans, the college financial leads, and other university partners to support them in the oversight of faculty, administrative, and financial matters related to the Academic CollegesThe Assistant Vice Provost should possess strong listening skills and an ability to engage multiple stakeholders in differing roles and backgrounds in meaningful discussions to advance institutional outcomes, as well as familiarity with national best practices, ability to obtain and analyze data to make data-informed decisions, and dedication to the work necessary for implementation at UTSA. Given UTSA’s leadership in promoting a diverse academic community and endeavors in Academic Affairs to accelerate our progress in this area, candidates from groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education are particularly encouraged to seek this opportunity.

Essential Functions

Function:   To provide leadership and administration of the faculty, fiscal, and business operations related to Academic Affairs and Academic Colleges.

Typical:

  1. Develop and carry out strategic initiatives related to college financial structure and health such as implementation of business service centers, IRM, differential tuition and fees, and use of funds.
  2. Ensures the area’s is accountable for compliance with Regent’s Rules, Handbook of Operating Proceedures (HOP), and Vice President Business Affairs business procedures.
  3. Advise and assist the executive leadership on development and implementation of policies, procedures, protocols and methods of improving administrative and financial operations related to colleges.
  4. Convene college financial leads at least monthly and works with them on common goals, standards and operating practices
  5. Serve as a resource and liaison to deans, associate deans, department chairs, and dean’s office staff providing consultation and advice. Build effective partnerships throughout the university related to administrative and financial matters related to colleges.
  6. Partner with Office of VP for Business Affairs for budget coordination, resource planning and financial planning related to the colleges.
  7. Actively involved as a key member of the University Financial team.
  8. Oversee and Department Manager for Academic Affairs Accounts
  9. Develop and carry out strategic initiatives related to the administration of faculty.
  10. Advise and assist the executive leadership on the development and implementation of policies, procedures, protocols and methods of improving administrative and business operations related to faculty
  11. Support faculty recruitment and financial obligations including postings, offers, start-up packages and special opportunity hires
  12. Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Seven years of professional experience in finance and/or business operations, to include five years in a leadership role.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Effective communications skills with diverse communities of students, faculty, administrators and executives.
  • Senior level experience directly related to academic business and finance operations.
  • Experience managing key projects and initiatives with significant impact across the organization.
  • Knowledge of personal computers, including Microsoft Office Suite and standard office equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in the disciplines of business, finance, management, higher education leadership or related.
  • Master’s Degree.
  • Experience with faculty recruitment.
  • Experience working within an academic college.

Working Conditions

This position will require working both remotely and on campus (approximately five or more days on campus per month).  Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.  Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
