Summary

This critical sensitive position is acts as Manager of the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) communications Center which is located within the Communications, Records and Technical support section of United States Park Police, in the Field Operations Division, San Francisco Field Office.

The purpose of this position is responsible for the effective and efficient management of the communications division.

Duties

The Major duties of the Telecommunications Manager include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Managing, coordinating, and administrating operations of a communications center
  • Direct supervision of dispatchers
  • Preparing the annual division budget
  • Establishing performance standards
  • Reviewing work performed and and taking necessary corrective actions,
  • Provide technical assistance to staff and others as necessary
  • Making recommendations in equipment purchases, plans, and program development
  • Communicate as needed with local, state, and federal levels as required

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Shift work or non-standard tours of duty are involved and maybe required. The incumbent is an essential employee, therefore is required to come to work on time, regardless of weather conditions. Additionally, in exigent circumstances, the incumbent may be required to work past a normal end of shift in order to maintain the efficiency of the United States Park Police.

Working Conditions: The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated in a temperature-controlled room. The work area is in a large open space which also contains computer work stations, alarm equipment, and radio equipment. The Incumbent may be required to be deployed to other locations and areas for special assignment which may include work outdoors or in other areas that are not climate controlled or adequately lighted

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-08 . If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

Prevent, detect, and investigate violations of laws, rules, and regulations that involve accidents, crimes, misconduct, and security violations.
As Bureau law enforcement officers carry the same authority as sheriff or constable in policing the Bureau and designated areas.
