Summary

The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN) is seeking a Research Area Specialist Intermediate who will work with faculty Principal Investigators (PI’s), the Applied Biostatistics Laboratory & Data Management Core, Michigan State Police, and several community partners throughout the state on a research grant focusing on addressing substance use disorders and overdose prevention. This position requires skills and experience in three main areas:

a) Project management, including maintaining regulatory compliance & communications with funding agencies and community partners; maintaining state and federal data privacy; UM IRB compliance, contract management, preparing interim reports, maintaining budgets, monitoring research compliance among community partners (CP’s), in-person and/or virtual visits with CP’s for training and evaluation, coordinating meetings among CP’s and PI’s,

b) Quantitative and qualitative research support including database design & implementation for web-based (REDCap) data acquisition; ongoing data management; data extraction; statistical analysis/coding (under supervision); preparing data extracts for qualitative analysis; and

c) Research support including performing literature searches; scientific/technical writing for manuscripts and presentations; data visualization tasks; grant writing.  This position may involve representing UM SN researchers and CP’s at statewide or national meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate communication among project staff, co-investigators, and the collaborating partnerships (CPs).
  • Plan and oversee stakeholder advisory boards.
  • Assist the Principal Investigators and Co-Is with research tasks and processes related to the community-based studies.
  • Serve as primary point of contact between the UM PI-team, CPs, and the Michigan State Police (principal CP)
  • Develop and maintain web-based database (ex. REDCap) consistent with the grant’s aims and objectives
  • Train & supervise CP’s and study team members on electronic database
  • Manage budget expenditures, reimbursements, participant incentives, and sub-contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with study protocols, Institutional Review Board and BJA/DOJ grant requirements.
  • Oversee and contribute to the development of all behavioral intervention components.
  • Prepare IRB amendments.
  • Prepare required progress reports for funding agency
  • Assists in the preparation and submission of manuscripts, presentations and grant proposals.
  • Plan and implement dissemination activities.
  • Facilitate team meetings with UM PIs, RAs, and other CPs

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field (post-graduate training in statistics, biostatistics, public health, preferred).
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible, relevant work experience providing research support & management with particular emphasis on working with community and law enforcement agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience with managing state or federally funded research project(s), including managing budgets, maintaining reporting requirements, IRB and related regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience with databased design and programming (ex. REDCap).
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical software and analysis (ex. SAS, Stata, R).
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating research among community partners (ex. overdose prevention agencies, state epidemiologists, medical examiners, state police, hospital systems).
  • Demonstrated experience in grant writing.
  • Knowledge of substance use disorders and research terminology is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of how to collect, track, and secure various forms of quantitative and qualitative data is required.
  • Training and experience in applied biostatistics/epidemiology.
  • Excellent computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Candidate must have excellent communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums.

Additional Information

Shift/Hours/Days: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; may include some occasional weekend and/or evening hours.

Salary: Due to grant funding, the maximum salary for this position is $62,000. Salary is commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. We encourage all interested parties to apply.

Responsibilities

Leadership/Administration 50%

  • Provide leadership for a specific area in a large, comprehensive, fast-paced, career services office (e.g., peer advising services, special population outreach).
  • Exercise autonomy in the management of the assigned area of responsibility within the office.

  • Using student development and resource expertise, educate students regarding access to educational, experiential, and multimedia career information to aid career and educational planning and life choices. Includes gaining experience through student activities, community service, employment, research or creative projects, and experiential learning in multiple sectors (profit, not-for-profit, public service, arts, as examples) as well as helping students to reflect on those experiences to understand and make meaning of them.
  • Create, implement and evaluate intentionally-designed, educationally-driven interactive programs on such topics as career exploration, values clarification, decision-making, information seeking, networking domestic and international job and internship search, social media tools and graduate/professional school processes utilizing knowledge and skills in program design, marketing, resource management, and group process.  Conduct individual presentations, coordinate panel presentations or electronic media; utilize appropriate program assessment.  Includes providing off-site assistance to students in residence halls, fraternities and sororities, and student groups at weeknight and weekend meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, counseling, or related field which includes the broad-based study of theory and research in career and student development, counseling, social identity, student learning, multicultural counseling, basics statistics to complement relevant skill sets.
  • 2 years professional-level experience career coaching and counseling and engaging in group process and programming
  • 2-3 years in program design based on student learning objectives and evaluation
  • 2 years managing programmatic efforts including overall strategy, implementation, and assessment
  • 2 years experience establishing priorities and exercising sound decision making on relevant issues
  • 1-2 years experience in a large, centralized, complex, fast-paced office

As an Applications Programmer / Analyst, you will work with other developers on the IT Development team and our customers across the Law School. You will work on developing new applications on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform and support our legacy applications and external integrations in our ecosystem. You will be responsible for ensuring that the applications and the data that they produce are correct and available for the team’s clients.

Responsibilities

  • Work with other developers, support best coding practices, and ensure smooth integration between applications within the Law School.
  • Debug, test, and make updates to existing applications.
  • Review and evaluate client requirements, prepare use cases, and develop solutions to problems.
  • Develop, build, and maintain services for migrating and synchronizing data between systems.
  • Assist departments within the Law School with automating routine tasks.
  • Research new technologies, best practices, and design patterns.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Work experience in full-stack web development (front-end, back-end, database)
  • At least 3 years of programming experience in an Object-Oriented Programming environment (.NET/C#).
