Advertised Job Summary
The Assistant Director for Student Affairs works with the Director of Student Affairs to coordinate and manage tasks to support the Office of Student Affairs. The position requires the employee to assist with a variety of functions, including working with students, student organization programming, and assisting with all student affairs issues. The Assistant Director will administer accommodated and make-up exams. The Assistant Director will be expected to assist with the coordination of many school-wide events.
Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years related experience in business management, public administration, or administrative services; or equivalency.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in the higher education sector; particularly with graduate and law students.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of or ability to learn program area. Ability to manage multiple tasks at once with constant interruptions. Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. The primary purpose of this position is to recruit students, assist with reviewing and processing admissions applications, provide campus tours/student interviews and participate in special events for student recruitment.
  • Travel to assigned territories for freshman recruitment to establish new and foster existing relationships with guidance counselors and career development facilitators to grow enrollment. Target identified students in specific majors to drive toward enrollment goals.
  • Interview and assist students and their families through all aspects of the admissions process as well as provide them counseling to guide them through the enrollment process at Upstate.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with prospective students and their families, providing exceptional customer service and communication by initiating and answering phone calls, correspondence, and inquiries in a timely manner. Use email, text messages and social media strategies to communicate with prospects.
  • Enter data in the student recruitment data system to allow for follow up and recruitment efforts. Use data in system to target students for communication plans.
  • Assist with recruitment events and campus tours for students who visit the USC Upstate campus to recruit them as new students. Provide campus information sessions prior to campus tours. Participate in freshman student orientation events to provide service to students.
  • Participate in various speaking engagements, college information sessions, workshops and conferences. Act as a resource to college counselors and provide expertise on the admissions process in public forums.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Bachelor’s degree. Valid driver’s license, good driving record and successful background check are required.

Under general supervision, serves as the Graduate Programs Survey Data Analyst for graduate programs faculty and course evaluations, plus other program/projects in the Office of Educational Assessment and Quality Improvement at the School of Medicine-Columbia (SOMC). Designs, develops, implements, and maintains an efficient evaluation database to house all evaluation results. Presents information for decision-making purposes. Demonstrates commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures, and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Master’s degree and 1 year related program experience, or bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience. Proven experience as a data analyst or business data analyst.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of survey program software (e.g., Survey Monkey, etc.) and experience with large data bases.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems. Ability to identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets. Ability to filter and “clean” data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and’ correct code problems. Ability to work with management to prioritize business and information needs. Ability to locate and define new process improvement opportunities. Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, and data mining techniques. Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing data sets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, etc.). Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate
significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy. Adept at queries, report writing, and presenting findings. Ability to conduct business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures, and regulations.

The Administrative Coordinator II is a crucial role in this office providing support for assigned Board of Trustees’ Standing Committees, to include working with University Administrators and Board of Trustees office staff to develop and prioritize agenda items, preparing chair briefs to script and guide execution of meetings by Committee Chair. These are certified police officers in accordance with SC Code of Laws, empowered with full arrest and police authority statewide. They enforce state laws, NAC rules and regulations, and University rules and regulations. Executes duties of a patrol officer, provides VIP detail security, and assists with critical incidents. Patrol officers are typically assigned to rotating 12 hours shifts. Currently, patrol officers assigned to 12- hour shifts receive an annual $4000 temporary shift supplement which is not part of the base salary.
